Hostel booking minus those pesky extra fees
When you backpack around the world you are travelling, by and large, on a budget. Wherever possible limited means should not be wasted on booking and transaction fees. ATMs, currency converters, airlines, they all take their slice of the travel pie so you don’t want the added cost of paying booking fees to hostel agents too. There are several sites out there dedicated to describing and empowering hostel booking but my own first choice is always HostelBookers.com. By and large other sites like Hostels.com, Hostelworld.com and HostelBookers.com all agree on hostel ratings such as cleanliness and service because they have large user bases but HB is ahead of the curve precisely because they don’t charge fees. That is the reason why I endorse their services on Expatior. If you click through to their site from a link in an article here, and end up booking a room, then yes I do get a very small cut of the commission but that’s the only payment I get from them. As I say elsewhere – “My personal experience is the barometer determining whether I recommend any product or service. If it isn’t good, it doesn’t get an endorsement and no monetary inducement (read ‘bribe’) will compromise that stance.”
